Moulin à Vent Vieilles Vignes Château des Moriers 2019

Château des Moriers' Moulin à Vent Vieilles Vignes is a red wine from the Beaujolais. The evocative name hints at one of the most vocated areas in this corner of Burgundy, famous for its new wines. This Moulin a Vent, however, is a red capable of aging. Hints of flowers and fresh red fruits dominate the nose, while the sip is silky, warm and enveloping. A fine but not subtle wine of great elegance

MOULIN À VENT VIEILLES VIGNES CHÂTEAU DES MORIERS 2019 DESCRIPTION

The Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes from Chateau des Moriers is a Beaujolais red wine of very good structure and longevity, made by a family that has been involved in the winegrowing business for seven generations. The estate's production is focused exclusively on Gamay, represented by the prized Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie crus. In particular, the Moulin-à-Vent is defined by the Monrozier family itself as 'the lord of the Chateau' by virtue of its important structure and great prestige, characteristics for which the wines of this cru are aged for a longer period in 400-litre French oak barrels, thus larger than the classic 228-litre Burgundian barrels.

Chateau des Moriers Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is a 100% Gamay grown according to organic farming principles. The vineyards from which the grapes come are very old, over 65 years old, rooted on soils rich in clay and granite. Manual harvesting is followed by whole cluster vinification with semi-carbonic maceration and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation thanks to the sole action of indigenous yeasts. The ensuing 10-month ageing takes place in 400-litre French oak barrels of first and second passage, and after a further brief resting period in the bottle, the wine is finally placed on the market.

The Vieilles Vignes Moulin-à-Vent from Chateau des Moriers is light ruby red. Intense and seductive hints of macerated violets, cherry and raspberry jam, undergrowth and iris characterise the olfactory texture, supported by pleasant and unobtrusive spicy tones. The taste is warm and, at the same time, fresh, soft and well-structured, with elegant tannins that anticipate the fruity and delicately spicy finish.
