NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO POLIZIANO 2020 DESCRIPTION

Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano takes the form of a classic interpretation of this famous Tuscan appellation reserved for one of the oldest wines in all of Italy. In fact, a document dated 789, cited by historian Emanuele Repetti, mentions land planted with vines within the "castle of Policiano," a name for Montepulciano. Instead, it is necessary to go as far as 1787 to see the expression "Vino Nobile" mentioned in a document, when the Governor of the Conservatory of San Girolamo donated 28 flasks of Vino Nobile as a gift to the Conservatory of Florence. In recent times, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was, together with Brunello di Montalcino, the first Italian DOCG and the first ever to which the denomination's label was affixed, which is still preserved in the Offices of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Poliziano's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano consists of a solid base of Sangiovese, represented by the local biotype Prugnolo Gentile, to which is added 5 percent of the Colorino, Canaiolo and Merlot grape varieties. The rows are located between 300 and 450 meters above sea level and rest on clay-loam matrix soils with medium presence of skeleton. Manual harvesting is followed by careful sorting of the bunches, which are then mellowed in stainless steel truncated conical vats for alcoholic fermentation and pellicular maceration for 15-20 days. The subsequent maturation phase takes place in oak barrels of various sizes and lasts for 14-16 months before bottling.

Clear ruby red is the color of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Poliziano. The nose evokes floral scents that anticipate aromas of plum, mulberry, cinchona and tobacco. Sip with a balanced character, marked by good freshness and smooth tannins.
