Nevio Scala's "Novecentonovantanove" is a fragrant and pleasantly fruity red wine made with two Bordeaux grape varieties that have been cultivated for centuries in the Colli Euganei area. It is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, which express the typical varietal character of these great French grapes in a sincere and typical way. The choice of using only partial wood in the aging process preserves all the best varietal characteristics. The wine thus gives an extraordinary immediate drinkability, with aromas of red fruit accompanied by slight vegetal and spicy notes.
The wine "Novecentonovantanove" is produced in Lozzo Atestino, where Nevio Scala, a famous soccer player and coach, decided to start a second career as a winemaker. He returned to his homeland to take care of wine, with a property of about 6 hectares managed under organic farming. The vineyards are located in a natural setting characterized by the presence of olive trees and other plants, which guarantee precious biodiversity. The soils of ancient volcanic or alluvial origin and the beautiful exposures of the Colli Euganei area allow the production of quality grapes with the grape varieties that have always been present in Veneto: Garganega, Malvasia, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, to which ancient native varieties such as Turchetta, Recantina, Pataresca and Corbinona are added. Nevio Scala's wines are straightforward, authentic, and clear expressions of the terroir.
Nevio Scala's "999" red wine is produced on the hills of Padua, always considered ideal lands for grape cultivation. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine matures for 14 months in a concrete vats, except for 5% of Cabernet Franc, which is aged with a brief passage in oak barrels. In the glass, it has a rather intense ruby red color. On the nose, it recalls the aromas of small dark berries, slight hints of aromatic herbs, green pepper, and soft spicy sensations. On the palate, it is intense and rich, with tannins well integrated into the body of the wine and still crunchy fruit. The finish is pleasantly fresh, with a return to spicy sensations.
