Orange Grand Cru Kaefferkopf Purberg Geschickt 2020

The Orange Grand Cru Kaefferkopf Purberg from Geschickt is a white wine from Alsace that is macerated for thirty days on the skins. It thus acquires a beautiful, full amber colour and, thanks to 12 months of ageing in oak barrels, is well structured and very persistent. Tropical fruit, spices and citrus fruits complete the organoleptic picture, resulting in a perfect wine to pair with the savoury dishes of oriental cuisine or, staying on the classic, with a tomato fish soup

ORANGE GRAND CRU KAEFFERKOPF PURBERG GESCHICKT 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Geschickt Orange Grand Cru Kaefferkopf Purberg from the Alsace biodynamic estate is a blend of traditional local grapes that stands out for its structured and vibrant style. The Kaefferkopf Grand Cru plot is located within the municipality of Ammerschwihr, a few kilometers north of the delightful town of Colmar. In this cru, where Gewurztraminer occupies over half of the entire vineyard area, the soils are quite varied. Therefore, the Geschickt winery has decided to divide its vineyards located in Kaefferkopf into two portions, identified by names of historic places: Pfulben, with predominantly granitic soils, and Purberg, where the soil is more calcareous and from which the grapes destined for this macerated white wine originate.

Geschickt Orange Grand Cru Kaefferkopf Purberg consists of a blend of Gewurztraminer (80%), Pinot Grigio (10%), and Riesling (10%), varieties cultivated following biodynamic agriculture principles. The plants grow on granitic and mainly calcareous soils exposed to the east and located at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed in stainless steel vats for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation accompanied by a generous 30-day maceration on the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is transferred to oak barrels for aging for about a year before final bottling, which is done without prior filtration.

The Geschickt Orange Kaefferkopf Purberg Grand Cru has a bright amber-yellow color. Its rich and generous aromatic profile is described by aromas of lychee, pineapple, orange zest, ripe apricot, and macerated flowers, accompanied by notes of sweet spices such as cloves and a fervent mineral vein. The tasting experience, vibrant and structured, reveals brilliant freshness and pronounced salinity, as well as a persistent finish on sensations of ripe fruit and spices.
