Pu Wines' Pais Coro 'Secano Interior Yumbel' is a red wine from a very young Chilean winery, run by young Patrick who, after years traveling the world, has found a place to put down roots. Pais is a Spanish grape variety that has a very ancient history, however: it was the first grape planted by Spanish settlers centuries ago now. The result, made in amphora and with indigenous yeasts, is energetic and vital, with hints of red fruits that reappear on the palate. The sip is fresh, energetic and, above all, of great freshness. A wine that is a little 'rock' and very carefree
The Pais Coro 'Secano Interior Yumbel' from the Chilean artisanal winery Pu Wines is a red wine with a slightly rustic identity, the result of an enthusiastic biodynamic vision. The Secano Interior denomination encompasses an area from the Mataquito to the Bio Bio river and is based on wines produced from vineyards of the Pais, Cinsault, Muscat of Alexandria and Carignano varieties that are not irrigated. In fact, the Spanish term 'secano' translates as 'dry land' and this Chilean denomination was created to give value to the expressions of these vines, which are too often mortified by the production of low-quality bulk wines. The DO Secano Interior can then be followed by the name of the municipality where the grapes come from, in this case that of Yumbel.
Pu Wines Pais Coro 'Secano Interior Yumbel' is made from only Pais grapes cultivated in accordance with the criteria of biodynamic agriculture, without the use of irrigation. The vines are rooted free-range on soils of volcanic origin and are up to 150 years old. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and placed in open amphorae for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation associated with 4 weeks of contact between the must and skins. This is followed by an ageing period of approximately 11 months in exhausted oak barrels, at the end of which the wine is bottled without the addition of sulphur and without clarification or filtration.
In the glass, the Pais Coro Pu Wines 'Secano Interior Yumbel' reveals a light ruby red colour. Sensations of blackberry, raspberry and orange peel define the olfactory range along with rich hints of various spices. The palate is energetic and vinous, with a juicy freshness that combines with integrated tannins in a free-range progression.
