Berritta Dorgali

Panzale Berritta Dorgali 2023

The Panzale from Berritta Dorgali winery is a white wine made from Panzale, a rare grape variety native to the area of Dorgali, in the province of Nuoro. The short maceration in contact with the skins gives the wine particular bright nuances, as well as an intense aromatic profile with notes of yellow-fleshed fruit, citrus peel and almond flowers. The palate is fresh and dry, supported on the finish by a pleasant sapid streak

PANZALE BERRITTA DORGALI 2023 DESCRIPTION

The Berritta Dorgali Panzale represents a sought-after and original label from Sardinia that stems from a sustainable production vision. At the heart of this bottle is the Panzale, also known as Pansale, an extremely rare native variety of the Sardinian island that was saved from the risk of extinction by the Berritta winery, which strongly believed in this vine, cultivating and enhancing it through pure vinification. Official recognition only arrived in 2020 thanks to the work of Antonio Berritta, founder and owner of the estate. There are not many historical records concerning Panzale, although its cultivation in Sardinia is thought to have ancient origins.

Berritta Dorgali's Panzale consists solely of Panzale grapes from vines about 25 years old grown under certified organic cultivation on soils drained by granite disintegration, located at an altitude of 120 metres above sea level. The bunches are hand-picked in boxes during the first ten days of September and are then immediately chilled in cold storage at a temperature of 5-6 °C. This is followed by soft crushing and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with 12-18 hours of skin maceration. Maturation of approximately 5 months also takes place in stainless steel, and after a further brief refinement in the bottle, the wine is finally placed on the market.

The Sardinian white wine Panzale Berritta Dorgali is bright straw yellow with golden hues. Hints of yellow-fleshed fruit, medlar, citrus peel and delicate hints of almond blossom outline the aromatic bouquet. On the palate, it is dry, fresh and fragrant, with a long, savoury trail characterising the gustatory epilogue.
