The Passito di Pantelleria "Mantingana" is one of the most full-bodied, rich and complex sweet wines in all of Sicily. It comes from old sapling vines located in the district of the same name and matures for 24 months in barriques. Heady aromas of orange blossom honey, dates, jams, sweet spices and a soft, dense and robust taste
Salvatore Murana's Passito di Pantelleria "Martingana" is one of the excellences of our oenological heritage. It is one of the most famous and appreciated dessert wines, a precious pearl produced in a limited number of bottles, sought after by enthusiasts and connoisseurs. It is a label that summarizes the best qualities of an ancient and aromatic grape like Zibibbo, the sunny and windy character of Pantelleria and the experience of a great vigneron. The synthesis is a bottle full of charm with subtle and complex aromas, deep and persistent, to be enjoyed with classic Sicilian pastries.
"Martingana" is the Passito di Pantelleria produced by one of the island's most famous winemakers. Salvatore Murana cultivates 15 hectares of vineyards divided into different districts: Gadir, Martingana, Mueggen, Khamma, Praia, Ghirlanda and Coste. Zibibbo grapes come from the vineyards cultivated in Martingana, on terraces overlooking the sea, along the southern coast of the island of Pantelleria. These are old vines raised to the Pantellerian alberello system, producing a few clusters with very intense and concentrated aromas. Harvesting takes place towards the end of August, and the best, healthiest and ripest bunches are placed to dry in the sun for about a month. After a soft pressing, the must is fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 24-28 °C, together with a portion of must from the pressing of non-dried grapes. The wine matures for 24 months in second-passage barriques.
Salvatore Murana's Passito di Pantelleria "Martingana" wine is the very essence of the Mediterranean, of its sunny warmth, a pure expression of Pantelleria's tradition. To the eye, it is amber in colour with antique gold reflections and orange hues. Intense and complex, it seduces with aromas of candied citrus peel, orange honey, floral nuances of zagara, aromas of dehydrated apricot, ripe yellow fruit, tropical fruit, dates, dried figs, almond, dried fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and soft oriental spices. The palate entry is warm and persuasive, with ample, complex aromas that create a satisfying flavour harmony. The finish is very persistent, with a pleasantly fresh and savoury finish. A unique experience: one of the best passiti wines of our peninsula.
