"Le Pergole Torte" from Montevertine is a Tuscan excellence, an Italian monument and among the stars of the world wine scene. Simply put, it is a liquid emotion that, with its elegance, nobility and precision, has inspired and served as an example for many producers in Italy and beyond. We are located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, more precisely in Radda, the home par excellence of Sangiovese. Since 1981, the Montervertine winery has gone outside the specifications because it did not want to follow the recipe set by the consortium but to continue producing with its traditional method, outside the fashions and obligations of the market.
As with the best adventures, everything started unexpectedly: it was almost a hobby for Sergio Manetti, a production intended for friends and clients. Then, at Vinitaly, the truth: that wine was something extraordinary. A few years later, the inevitable consequence of a true and powerful passion, Sergio Manetti decided to devote himself to the business of winemaking, triggering a path of growth and quality that is still carried on today by his son. Since 1982, the labels have been designed by artist Alberto Manfredi, a longtime friend of Sergio's, who liked to depict stylized, simple, attractive faces of ladies with simple brushstrokes. Following his passing, his drawings preserved in the old archives are used to remember him each year.
Toscana Rosso's "Le Pergole Torte" comes from Sangiovese vines of 2.5 hectares of the total 18 owned by the winery. Its long road begins in the vineyard, where a very strict selection of grapes is made, and continues with fermentation, first alcoholic and then malolactic, in cement tanks. The phase of ageing is tripartite: it starts in Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months, follows in Allier barriques for another 12 months and ends with 6 months of rest in the bottle.
The wine "Le Pergole Torte" is a complex and layered Sangiovese. It glows in the glass with its noble ruby red coat, shining like a precious stone. The bouquet immediately enraptures with its complexity and elegance of smell: red fruits, noble spices, cocoa, coffee on a mineral and graphite background. An aristocratic wine which stands out in the mouth for its refined structure. Elegance vs power, freshness vs softness in a winless encounter with an interminable finish!
