PINOT NERO ABBAZIA DI NOVACELLA 2023 DESCRIPTION

Pinot Noir from Abbazia di Novacella is a young, fragrant South Tyrolean red made from the famous Burgundy grape variety, which for centuries has found the conditions in these lands to express itself at excellent levels of quality. The short aging in large barrels, helps to preserve the integrity of the varietal aromas of the grape. A wine that conquers with crisp aromas of small berries and an immediate drinkability. Elegant and medium-bodied, it is perfect to enjoy with roast white meats or a rose lamb.

Pinot Noir wine from the Abbey of Novacella is one of the classic reds from this historic winery in South Tyrol. Wine has been produced in its cellars since the 12th century and still represents the most important brand in the Eisack Valley. In addition to the white grape vineyards grown in the Bressanone area, it owns several estates in the Bolzano and Appiano area, where it grows red grape varieties. The Pinot Noir grapes come from the estates in Cornaiano. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 350 and 420 meters above sea level, with north-facing, northwest exposure. The cool climate, with good temperature ranges between daytime and nighttime temperatures, and the suitable soils, consisting of ancient moraine deposits, help create a perfect habitat for this demanding French grape variety. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period on the skins of a couple of weeks. Before bottling, the wine matures for about six months in 60-hectoliter oak barrels.

The red Pinot Noir from Abbazia di Novacella is a wine that is appreciated for its pleasant smoothness, fresh and delicate profile. To the eye, it is ruby red in color with light purple highlights. Fragrant and delicate, it expresses aromas of lampone, currants, wild strawberries, morello cherries, hints of underbrush and light nuances of oriental spices. The palate is medium-bodied, with ripe fruit, harmonious aromas of good complexity, and a fine, velvety tannic texture. The finish is characterized by a clear freshness and a closure that returns to lively fruity sensations. A refined and subtle red, ideal for those who love elegance.
