Pinot Noir 'Kaiserstuhl' Salwey 2020

Pinot Noir 'Kaiserstuhl' Salwey 2020

The Pinot Noir 'Kaiserstuhl' from Salwey is a classy German red. The winery's vineyards are located on volcanic soils in the Baden region, an area of great vocation for 'Spatburgunder,' the variety's German name. The grapes are picked from the best vineyards and mature in barrels before being bottled without any filtration. Intense on the nose with aaromas of fruit, fragrant spices and mineral hints, the palate is striking for the contrast between the strength of the tannins and the silkiness of the sip. Warm and volcanic in character, it is a wine capable of long aging

PINOT NOIR 'KAISERSTUHL' SALWEY 2020 DESCRIPTION

The 'Kaiserstuhl' Pinot Noir by Salwey is a wine originating from the Baden region in southwestern Germany. This label, made from quality grapes, is the result of a long family tradition dating back to the 18th century, which continues to thrive under the guidance of the third generation of the Salwey family. The winery is located in the heart of the Kaiserstuhl, an ancient extinct volcanic ridge, which imparts unique and distinctive characteristics to the grapes, reflecting the richness of the terroir. The winery's production philosophy is based on respect for nature and the valorization of the territory, with particular attention to the conservation of the local ecosystem.

The grapes used for the 'Kaiserstuhl' Pinot Noir are cultivated using sustainable agricultural methods, respecting the climate, animals, and plants. The winery encompasses one of the largest nature reserves in the region, the Kirchberg, which contributes to preserving the biodiversity and scenic beauty of the area. The harvest is strictly done by hand to ensure the highest quality of grapes, which are then transported to the winery and selected before the start of the vinification process. Maturation primarily occurs in selected wooden barrels, utilizing oak from surrounding forests, which lends complexity and structure to the wine.

Salwey's 'Kaiserstuhl' Pinot Noir is a wine with an intense red color that reveals a fruity and inviting bouquet on the nose. On the palate, the soft and persistent tannins provide a pleasant mouthfeel, accompanied by notes of ripe fruit and a slight spiciness. Thanks to its aging in barriques for 12 months and malolactic fermentation in oak, the wine is balanced and complex, with aging potential promising to reveal further nuances over time. This Pinot Noir is perfect for pairing with red meat dishes or aged cheeses, but it is also suitable for enjoying on its own, during a moment of relaxation or in the company of friends.
