PINOT NERO RISERVA 'MONTICOL' CANTINA TERLANO 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Pinot Noir Riserva "Monticol," already marketed by the Terlan winery under the label "Montigl," is the result of a selection of the oldest vines cultivated at high altitudes, which naturally produce high quality grapes with low yields. Furthermore, the particularly cool and breezy climate of the Terlan area has proven to be very suitable for the famous Burgundy varietal, which has been dwelling in South Tyrol since the 19th century. It is a version of Pinot Noir that is distinguished by a very elegant profile, a refined bouquet and a pleasantly flowing sip.

Pinot Noir Riserva "Monticol" wine is produced by one of the most famous and prestigious wineries in South Tyrol. The Terlan winery has more than a century of history behind it and today processes the grapes of more than 140 small South Tyrolean winegrowers who cultivate plots in particularly suitable areas. The vineyards are located on the slopes of Mount Tschöggel on porphyry soils of ancient volcanic origin and sandstone. The availability of a large parcel of land allows each variety to be grown in the most suitable area. For Pinot Noir, areas at altitude, with a sunny southern, southwestern exposure, were chosen, which are particularly suited for such a demanding and challenging variety. The winery's philosophy is geared, not only toward the quality search but also toward the enhancement of each individual terroir, through wines capable of expressing great typicality and authenticity.

Cantina Terlano's red Pinot Noir Riserva "Monticol" comes from the vineyards of the cru of the same name, which lies on the slopes of Mount Zoccolo at an altitude of 450-760 meters above sea level. The sunny exposure and noteworthy temperature fluctuations favour the perfect ripening of the grapes. At the end of manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and sent for fermentation in steel with maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 12 months, partly in large barrels and partly in barriques, both new and used. In the glass, it has a garnet colour and an elegant, multifaceted olfactory profile, with aromas of small berries, hints of soft spices and mineral hints of flint. It is agile and flowing on the palate, with a fine tannic texture and delicate and complex aromas, anticipating a savoury finish of great freshness. An excellent Pinot Noir with a typically South Tyrolean character, fresh, fruity and savoury.
