The Pinot Noir from San Michele Appiano is a red wine of beautiful progression and refined aromas. On the nose there are compelling notes of blackberry, blueberry and raspberry. The palate is generous, with fruity but also spicy returns, fresh and with fine tannin
Pinot Noir from the San Michele Appiano winery is a delicate and elegant red wine produced in Appiano, in the province of Bolzano, Trentino Alto Adige. This wine is made from pure Pinot Noir grapes, also known here as Blauburgunder, from vineyards with southern, southeastern, and southwestern exposure located on the hills of Eppan and Kaltern at altitudes between 400 and 550 meters (1,500 and 2,500 feet). The vines, which have an average age of about 15 years, are trained using the traditional espalier method with Guyot pruning on soils of moraine origin characterized by gravelly-limestone soils. The winery is a cooperative reality, founded in 1907, that has been able to carve out for itself year after year a leading role within the Italian winemaking reality thanks to a precise and clear orientation toward high-quality wine production.
San Michele Appiano Pinot Noir is made from carefully selected, hand-picked grapes in early to mid-September. The bunches, brought to the winery, are destemmed and gently crushed and then undergo alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers with frequent pumping over and a maceration on the skins of about 15 days. This is followed by racking with pressing, after which the wine is aged for at least 4-6 months in French oak barriques before being bottled and finally ready for release.
The San Michele Appiano Pinot Noir shows a beautiful deep garnet red colour to the eye. Intense red fruit and berry aromas appear on the nose, including cherry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry, with floral notes of red flowers, spicy hints of vanilla and other sweet spices. In the mouth, it is compact, fruity and spicy together, marked by a pleasant freshness and fine, well-integrated tannins. This from the San Michele Appiano winery is a satisfying and well-balanced red that is easy to drink thanks to its finesse and juiciness that gives continuous returns on fruit and underbrush notes.
