PORTO TAWNY QUINTA DO NOVAL 10 ANNI DESCRIPTION

The 10-year Tawny Port from the historic Quinta do Noval winery is a version of the world-famous fortified wine belonging to the Aged Tawny typology, that is, aged for a long time in smaller wooden barrels, of 550 litres, with greater contact between the liquid part and the container itself, losing the red colour in favour of a more nuanced one, with discharged veils.

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao and Sousao constitute the main grape varieties that make up the blend of this Port. First, the grapes are selected at the winery. This is followed by the traditional pressing of the grapes taking place in the winery's historic premises, where the lagares, stone tanks 1.5 meters deep and with a capacity of 100 Hl, are located. Here, the grapes are pressed with the feet from morning until night, being careful not to break the pips. Fermentation of the wine goes on until the desired point, after which it is stopped by the addition of distilled grape brandy. After that, the blend is perfectly assembled. Thus, they selected different vintages of Port refined in 550-litre wooden barrels, topped up as they compensate for oxidation. The result is a liquid with the taste and colour of a wine aged an average of 10 years.

Tawny 10-Year Port is characterized by the traditional, for the type, somewhat dull brick-red colour. A never decomposed oxidation is perceptible on the nose. The aromatic bouquet comprises spices, cinnamon, cardamom, raisins, and citrus. The full and fascinating palate, crisp black cherry, with ever-evident tannins and a return of dried fruit. Excellent to drink below 17°C.
