Primitivo 'Mandus' is a rich, enveloping red wine that captures the intensity and warmth of Salento. Produced by the Pietrapura winery, owned by Rocca delle Macie, this wine aims to fully express the nuances of one of Apulia's most prestigious varieties. After maturing for 4 months in barriques, 'Mandus' is distinguished by a powerful, soft and harmonious flavour profile, with notes of prunes, red fruit jam and delicate hints of vanilla
PietraPura's Primitivo di Manduria 'Mandus' is a red wine of remarkable smoothness and fruity intensity that benefits from brief ageing in French oak barriques. The PietraPura project is the result of a collaboration between the Zingarelli family, owner of the famous Tuscan estate Rocca delle Macìe, and several important companies in the Salento region. The common objective is to valorise native varieties, such as Primitivo, giving rise to high quality territorial wines.
Mandus' PietraPura Primitivo di Manduria is produced from pure Primitivo grapes grown in the Manduria area. The grapes are vinified in red by means of alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins, at a controlled temperature so as to preserve the aromatic heritage of the grapes. Once the fermentation process is complete, the marc is drawn off and softly pressed, with the subsequent ageing phase lasting about four months and taking place in French oak barriques. After a further resting period in the bottle, the wine is finally ready for release.
To the eye, PietraPura's 'Mandus' Primitivo di Manduria shows an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. Intense hints of ripe fruit, such as cherry and plum, characterise the olfactory range together with pleasant notes of cocoa and vanilla given by the passage in oak. The sip is ample, warm and structured, with a softness that envelops the palate anticipating the decisive returns of ripe fruit and spices on the finish. The producer's suggestion is to serve Primitivo di Manduria 'Mandus' at a temperature of 16-18 °C in combination with game, meat sauces or mature cheeses that can sustain its organoleptic intensity..
