PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA RISERVA 'COTIS' PIETRAPURA 2019 DESCRIPTION

The Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 'Cotis' from the Apulian PietraPura represents afull and rich interpretation of the Manduria area, the result of careful vinification of grapes from old vineyards. The name 'Cotis' means 'of the rock' and derives from a 17th century quotation by a priest from Salento, who referring to a robust wine from rocky vineyards said"...mieru te cute... ".

Cotis' PietraPura Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is made from pure Primitivo grapes selected from old vineyards that enjoy the breezy Mediterranean climate of Salento. Following the harvest, the grapes are mellowed in stainless steel tanks, containers in which the alcoholic fermentation takes place with maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature, so as to enhance the wine's aromatic heritage. French oak barrels are used for the subsequent ageing phase, which lasts no less than 12 months. This is followed by adequate bottle ageing before its definitive release.

In the glass, the 'Cotis' Primitivo di Manduria Riserva from the Salento company PietraPura presents itself with an intense and consistent ruby red mantle with light violet hues. On the nose, heady and ample hints of ripe cherry, plum, blueberry, mint and liquorice emerge, enriched by complex sensations of tobacco, chocolate and vanilla. The progression on the palate is structured, warm and full-bodied, with soft tannins accompanying the enveloping finish, characterised by persistent sweet and balsamic returns. By virtue of its power and intensity, this Primitivo di Manduria Riserva needs to be paired with a certain structure, such as roasted red meats, game dishes or mature cheeses.
