PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA RISERVA NOTTE ROSSA 2019 DESCRIPTION

Notte Rossa's Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is a wine with a soft, enveloping profile that tells all the warmth of the sunny Salento land. The extraordinary ripeness of the grapes expresses all the richness of fruit of this queen grape of Puglia, capable of giving warm, dense and Mediterranean wines. The long aging in wood allows Primitivo to smooth tannins and concentrate aromas, giving notes of plum, black cherry, jam and spices. A red wine of great structure and persistence, to be enjoyed with main courses of red meats, roasted or grilled.

Primitivo Riserva is produced by the Notte Rossa winery, which operates an estate in Sava, in the heart of Salento. The typically Mediterranean climate, very hot, dry but mitigated by the sea breezes that surround the Salento peninsula, is very suitable for the cultivation of vines, which have dwelled in these lands for millennia. The grapes come from old vines cultivated with the Greek alberello system, on soils characterized by red soils, rich in iron oxide, that insist on a substrate of limestone rocks. The estate has always worked with vines historically present in the area, and in particular with Primitivo, an early-ripening red grape native to the other side of the Adriatic. Thanks to a selection of the best bunches, pushed to maximum ripeness on the vine and a long aging in barriques, Riserva condenses all the best qualities of Primitivo, restoring its authentic face.

The Riserva Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is the spearhead of the wines of the Apulian reality Notte Rossa. It is the label that best expresses the potential of the grape variety and the great tradition of Apulian reds. The grapes are harvested after a slight over-ripening in the vineyard, so as to reach the maximum sugar level. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins. Before bottling, in wine ages for 18 months in French and American oak barrels. In the glass, it is dark ruby in color with garnet highlights. The bouquet is broad and intense, with aromas of ripe cherry, plum, berry jam, hints of spice, roasted sensations, dark chocolate, bitter cocoa, coffee, hints of vanilla and noble woods. The sip is rich and dense, with complex aromas and soft tannins. The finish is harmonious and very persistent.
