The Primitivo "Maccone" is a medium-bodied Apulian red wine, born from old saplings and vinified only in steel, endowed with exuberant and seductive aromas. Aromas of ripe red fruit, sweet spices and black cherries accompany a rich, pulpy and articulate sip, with sweet tannins on the finish
Apulian producer Donato Angiuli's Primitivo 'Maccone' constitutes an expression of textural concentration that can faithfully reflect the attributes of Primitivo, an indigenous red grape variety that has contributed greatly to the enhancement of enoic Puglia. This bottle belongs to the 'Maccone' line, desired by Donato Angiuli to pay tribute to his first cellarman, a professional man with a true personality who worked for several years in the estate's vineyards and cellar, leaving an indelible memory. In particular, the selection includes labels made with grapes from old vines bred to the alberello system.
Donato Angiuli 'Maccone' Primitivo comes from the pure varietal of the same name grown between the towns of Adelfia, Acquaviva delle Fonti and Casamassima, in the province of Bari. The vines, about 60 years old on average, are largely bush-trained on clay soils. Harvesting is done by hand in crates and the clusters are then transferred to the winery where they are mellowed in stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by 10 days of contact between the must and skins. After racking and completion of the fermentation process, the mass spends several months of maturation, again in stainless steel, before bottling and subsequent marketing.
'Maccone' Primitivo di Donato Angiuli possesses an intense and consistent ruby red hue tending toward purplish. Rich and fragrant hints of ripe plum, black cherry and spices characterize the olfactory landscape along with balsamic and Mediterranean notes. Exuberant, pulpy and warm the palate, equipped with sweet tannins and seductive savory trail. The lasting epilogue insists on articulate sensations of ripe fruit and balsamic herbs.
