Donato Angiuli's Primitivo Rosato "Maccone" is a wine that well represents the great Apulian tradition in the production of rosé wines. Long before the international fashion linked to the great success of the wines of Provence exploded, Puglia could boast a long history in the field of rosés made from the territory's red grapes. In particular, Primitivo di Gioia del Colle, which is very fresh and elegant, has always proved suitable for the production of this type of wine. Intense and fruity, it is distinguished by a rich and harmonious character, forthright and flowing.
Donato Angiuli's "Maccone" Primitivo Rosato is made by an interesting reality of the Apulian wine scene. It is a small artisanal winery, based in the Primitivo area of Gioia del Colle, which has chosen to devote itself with great passion to the enhancement of the indigenous grape varieties of the territory. The Primitivo grapes come from over 60 old vines, mainly bred with the alberello system, which are located in the municipal territories of Adelfia, Acquaviva delle Fonti, Casamassima. Harvesting is done by hand slightly in advance to preserve the right freshness needed to make a rosé. The clusters are very softly pressed with brief contact with the skins. The free-run juice is vinified in white with spontaneous fermentation using only indigenous yeasts, in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of about 10 °C. The wine is aged for a few months in steel before being bottled.
Donato Angiuli's Primitivo Rosato "Maccone" wine is a rosé with a typically gastronomic vocation. Its structure allows excellent pairings at the table. It goes particularly well with tasty local cured meats, with pasta dishes with tomato or shellfish, with seafood guazzetti and fish soups. To the eye it has a beautiful bright pink color. The olfactory profile is rich and intense, with aromas of wild strawberries, morello cherry, raspberry, red currant and floral nuances of iris and rose petals. The palate is soft and persuasive, with juicy fruit and a harmonious finish of balanced freshness.
