The "Punt e Mes" by the historic Carpano line derives from a Piedmontese dialect expression that defines its composition, that is, a sweet part of Vermouth and half a bitter dose of China. An ancient recipe that derives from an episode in which a broker ordered a correct Vermouth to celebrate a stock exchange that had risen by a point and a half. With its aromatic sweetness, its bitter nuances, the notes of orange, china and officinail herbs, it is today a perfect base for different types of cocktails

Carpano's 'Punt e Mes' is a legendary label, combining the characteristic softness and aromatic richness of a great Vermouth with the more austere, dry and slightly bitter personality of China. The end result is a new type of Vermouth, absolutely unique, that expresses a taste sensation of extraordinary harmony, all played on the delicate balance between the citrusy and spicy notes of Carpano Vermouth and the more bitter notes of China and Absinthe. Punt e Mes is best enjoyed as a straight aperitif, with ice and an orange peel. It can also be used as a base ingredient for some cocktails such as the 70's Punt e Mes, the Manhattan, the MI-TO or the Negroni Sbagliato.
Punt e Mes' Vermouth is produced by Carpano, a historical name in the industry. In fact, it was Antonio Benedetto Carpano who created the original recipe for the first Vermouth in Turin at the end of the 18th century. Success was immediate and within a short time Vermouth became the most popular aperitif in Italy and beyond. For the birth of Punt e Mes, however, one had to wait until 1870. The story goes that a stockbroker came into the Carpano shop in Turin with some colleagues discussing stock market shares that had risen by one and a half points and ordered a Carpano Vermouth spiked with half a dose of China. The new Vermouth was an immediate success and the anecdote inspired the creation of a new product that bore on its label precisely the dialect expression Punt e Mes, referring to the Stock Exchange. Born by chance, it immediately conquered the public's taste, becoming the symbol of the aperitif for many decades.
Carpano's 'Punt e Mes' was not only born at a bar counter, but in the same place the custom of ordering it with a simple hand gesture was also born: lift the thumb (Punt) and draw a horizontal line in the air with the outstretched hand (Mes). It is a Vermouth with a dark red colour, with orange reflections, expressing intense aromas of citrus peel, medicinal herbs, soft oriental spices and aromatic herbs. The sip is warm, rich and enveloping, with a soft and persuasive entry on the palate, leading towards a finish characterised by a slightly bitter finish.
