RIBOLLA GIALLA 'DEL POMPIERE' SCHIOPETTO 2023 DESCRIPTION

Pompiere Ribolla by Schiopetto is a beautiful version of this white wine that has always been produced in the Collio Goriziano region. It's a simple, fresh and extremely pleasant white wine that, precisely because of its characteristics, is gaining an increasingly large following of enthusiasts. On the nose, it expresses delicate floral scents, notes of citrus and wild herbs from the Mediterranean maquis. The taste is characterized by a vibrant citrus freshness that opens up to more mature aromas and closes with pleasant savory notes, typical of the terroir.

Pompiere Ribolla comes from the Schiopetto Estate's vineyards, which consist of various plots, all located in the famous areas of Capriva, Zegla, Pradis and Oleis. Ribolla Gialla is a rather generous variety and to produce excellent wines, it must be grown in high hills on poor and stony soils that naturally limit its yields. The splendid sunny exposures, protected from the cold winds of the north by the Julian Alps and mitigated by the gentle breezes of the nearby Adriatic Sea, have proven perfect for slow maturation of grapes with rich and intense aromas. The soils of oceanic origin, characterized by the presence of Flysch or "ponca" in Friulian, derived from sedimentation of sandstones and limestones on ancient seabeds, are draining and rich in mineral substances. Harvesting usually takes place towards the end of September. The grapes undergo soft pressing and the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15°C for about 10-12 days. The wine matures on the lees for about 4 months in steel and finishes its refinement with a couple of months in the bottle.

Ribolla del Pompiere represents the wine of the territory par excellence. A pure Ribolla Gialla, which perfectly expresses the character of this wonderful land, always dedicated to the production of extraordinary white wines. If, at one time, along with Tocai or Friulano, Ribolla Gialla was simply considered an everyday wine, today, thanks to cultivation with low yields and vinification attentive to its delicate aromas, it represents a true ambassador of Collio Goriziano. The wine has a clear straw yellow color. The olfactory profile is delicate and elegant, with floral scents, cedar and lemon aromas, and notes of white fruit. On the palate, it expresses a lively freshness with pleasantly citrus notes, which extend towards a savory and mineral finish.
