RIESLING FEINHERB GUTSWEIN '180°' JOSEF MILZ 2020 DESCRIPTION

Cith its smooth and harmonious spirit, Weingut Josef Milz's Feinherb Gutswein '180°' Riesling is an excellent choice to enliven the senses on hot summer days. The German term 'Feinherb', which literally translates as 'not dry', identifies those wines that are defined as sweet or semi-sweet, i.e. characterised by a light sweetness, with a residual sugar content not exceeding 18 g/l. Although not officially used, this term is part of the German wine tradition and is part of common parlance in place of the less popular 'Halbtrocken'. Instead, the appellation '180°' given to this label refers to the area of Trittenheim, home of the Weingut, where the Mosel River makes a 180° bend.

Feinherb Riesling Gutswein Josef Milz '180°' is a 100% Rhine Riesling from vines grown on very steep hillside soils consisting of grey-blue slate. The grapes, harvested by hand, are vinified using the white wine method through soft pressing followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks, the same wine containers used for the several-month maturation phase that precedes bottling and final marketing.

Josef Milz's '180°' Riesling Feinherb Gutswein expresses a brilliant straw-yellow hue. The inviting aromatic profile is described by hints of pineapple, passion fruit, green apple, lychee, lime and white flowers, enhanced by peculiar notes of honey and oil that form a surprisingly harmonious combination. In the mouth, the delicate sweetness is supported by taut freshness and refined minerality, elements that unite in an elegant finish of lasting persistence. A semi-dry Riesling endowed with uncommon longevity, which can easily be aged for 20 years and more.
