RIESLING MOSEL SPATLESE 'GRAACHER HIMMELREICH' J.J. PRUM 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Mosel Riesling Spatlese 'Graacher Himmelreich' from the renowned German winery J.J. Prum is a sweetish white wine with a vibrant mineral character. Although the Prum family has been involved in winemaking for more than 400 years, the modern history of the Weingut began in 1911 with Johann Josef Prum, and the winery is now run by his grandson Manfred together with his daughter Katharina. Among the estate's cultivated plots is 'Graacher Himmelreich,' counted among the most prestigious crus in the entire Mosel, a wine region known for its sunny and elegant Rieslings.

J.J. Prum 'Graacher Himmelreich' Mosel Riesling Spatlese is an expression of pure Rhine Riesling, a variety grown on soils consisting of gray slate. The vineyard, characterized by steep slopes, is well protected from wind and frost and benefits from the presence of the Mosel River, which reflects the sun's rays onto the vines. The harvest is carried out manually, accompanied by a strict selection of the bunches, and after soft pressing of the grapes the must is conveyed into stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation operated by indigenous yeasts only. The ensuing maturation phase of a few months takes place in the same type of wine containers, so as to preserve the wine's distinct freshness and finely aromatic aromas.

J.J. Prum's Riesling Mosel Spatlese 'Graacher Himmelreich' has a bright golden yellow hue. Intense, fresh hints of citrus define the olfactory landscape along with sweet fruity and honeyed notes and almost saline mineral perceptions. Vibrant, full-bodied and flavorful on the palate, with the lashing fresh-savory component and restrained sweetness coexisting in harmony preluding the long finish on vegetal and sweet spice sensations.
