Deltetto's Roero Arneis Riserva 'San Defendente' is one of the most precious expressions of the appellation, adorned each year with an artist's label. The vineyards are located in the historic hamlet of San Defendente on the hills of Canale, where the wine spends several months in barriques and then in the bottle, where it develops a very complex profile. The nose intrigues with a heterogeneous bouquet of flowers and ripe fruit, enriched by fascinating hints of flint on the finish, a sign of great evolutionary potential. On the palate freshness and savouriness intertwine with great structure, the soft sip intensifies the pleasantness of this white wine
Deltetto's Roero Arneis Riserva 'San Defendente' is a deep and rich interpretation that shows the Arneis vine's remarkable qualitative potential and longevity. The grapes destined for this label come from the small hamlet of San Defendente, in the commune of Canale, home of the Deltetto winery. This is a historic plot that falls within the Additional Geographical Indications of the Roero, whose rather high altitude is ideal for growing Arneis. Added value for this prized Reserve also lies in its social and cultural significance since it is part of the 'Etichette d'artista' (artist labels) project, created to address important social issues with the collaboration of artists from all over the world.
Roero Arneis Deltetto 'San Defendente' Riserva is a 100% Arneis from organically certified vines grown within the San Defendente MGA, on hilly terrain at an altitude of over 300 metres above sea level. Harvesting is carried out strictly by hand and the grapes are then vinified in white by means of soft pressing and subsequent alcoholic fermentation in second-passage French oak barriques at a controlled temperature of 16 °C. In the same type of wine container, the mass is left to mature on the fine lees for about 6 months, during which time weekly batonnage is carried out. This is followed by a resting period of at least one year in the bottle before final release.
Deltetto's 'San Defendente' Roero Arneis Riserva has an intense straw yellow hue. The nose is played on intriguing and complex sensations of apple, dried jasmine flowers, peach, candied pineapple, hazelnut and vanilla, all supported by a refined mineral stamp of flint that veers towards hydrocarbon with age. On the palate, it is excellently blended between textural softness, brilliant freshness and marked savouriness, elements that give rise to an elegant and persistent progression.
