Rosé 'Desueto' Nevio Scala 2023

Nevio Scala's Rosato 'Desueto' is an elegant and vibrant organic rosé. Described as the winery's 'oldest' wine, it is in fact made from four ancient red grape varieties, recovered from the volcanic soils at the foot of the Euganean Hills. Delicate aromas of red fruit, citrus and light floral notes emerge on the nose, with hints of iodine on the finish. The sip is fresh, savoury and juicy, with a harmonious finish. Ideal with pizza, risotto or spicy dishes, but also surprises with fruit desserts

ROSÉ 'DESUETO' NEVIO SCALA 2023 DESCRIPTION

With its refreshing yet characterful style, the Rosato 'Desueto' from the Veneto-based Nevio Scala demonstrates the propensity of the Euganean Hills area for producing rosé wines. The appellation 'Desueto', a term that indicates something that has fallen into disuse, refers to the fact that this rosé wine is produced using old black berry varieties of the territory recovered from the area's ancient vineyards, making it the most ancestral expression made by the estate. These grapes, which were widespread until the beginning of the 20th century, have been replaced over time by international varieties. Desueto' is therefore intended to be a rediscovery and enhancement of the Euganean Hills tradition.

Nevio Scala Rosato 'Desueto' is made from a blend of ancient local red grapes grown in accordance with the principles of certified organic agriculture in the locality of Prà del Rovere, in the municipality of Lozzo Atestino, on volcanic soil. Manual harvesting is followed by destemming and soft pressing of the bunches, with brief contact between the must and skins taking place directly in the press. At this point, the must undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts, at the end of which the mass is decanted into cement tanks for maturation for 9 months on the fine lees, associated with frequent batonnage. The final release takes place no earlier than a further 6 months resting in the bottle.

The colour of Nevio Scala's Rosato 'Desueto' is a beautiful intense cherry pink. The aromatic bouquet evokes inviting tones of wild strawberries and blood orange, followed by light floral hints of violets and mineral nuances on the finish. Fresh, savoury and tasty on the palate, characterised by a harmonious finish that brings back consistent fruity and mineral sensations.
