Rosso Piceno from the Aurora wine cellar is the characteristic territorial blend, in which the indigenous grapes combine perfectly to create a tasty, precise red wine to accompany the daily meal or a game of cards with friends.
Azienda Agricola Aurora makes its Rosso Piceno from a typical blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese, which share the quota more or less equally. The two varieties come from a planting planted about 30 years ago on medium-textured clayey soils and characterised by a widespread presence of disintegrated limestone. The vines take advantage of the south-eastern exposure that the slopes offer as they slope down towards the Adriatic, in the Offida area that lies close to the Abruzzi border, at an altitude of no more than 100 metres above sea level. The agronomic approach has been devoted to biodynamic practices since the winery was founded in the late 1970s, and the harvests are naturally conducted by hand, with a total yield of around 70 quintals per hectare and at separate times for the two grapes: in the first ten days of September for the Sangiovese and towards the end of the month for the Montepulciano. Fermentation is spontaneous, conducted solely with native yeasts, in steel vats for about ten days at a controlled temperature of around 25°C. At the end of maceration, the marc is pressed and statically decanted to separate the lees, after which the wines are racked and blended. Bottling is preceded by a few months of ageing in steel and light filtration.
Rosso Piceno di Aurora is dressed in a flaming dark ruby red. The nose is rich, immediately expressive of dark floral tones and fruity hints, in which blackberry and currant jam clearly emerge; a vegetal undergrowth introduces final toasted nuances of coffee and tobacco notes. The taste is precise, justly tannic and pleasantly soft, supported by a vigorous freshness that invites one to drink. A typical and frank red for pleasant pairings with first courses with sauce and the roasted meats of the Apennine tradition.
