Rosso Piceno Superiore by Aurora winery is a wine that plays a lot on freshness. The nose is fruity, undergrowth, with vegetal and floral appeals. On the palate it is soft and juicy, savory, persistent and with fruity returns
The Rosso Piceno Superiore from the Aurora winery is a frank interpretation of the typical grapes of an area historically called for viticulture and an affirmation that moving on large and celebrated stages to produce bottles of value is unnecessary. This is a Rosso dedicated to this small corner of the province of Ascoli, a local reality underlined by the beautiful label designed by Carlo Marchetti: the chase of the "false ox", a characteristic carnival representation, in front of the Palazzo Comunale of Offida.
Vini Aurora produces Rosso Piceno Superiore by vinifying the classic grape varieties of the small area dedicated to this appellation: Montepulciano, which makes up the largest part and becomes the flagship of a region after crossing the border with Abruzzo, and Sangiovese, which makes up a slightly smaller part and represents the entire tradition of the central Apennines. The vineyard, about 30 years old, stretches across the modest slopes that already face the Adriatic Sea, taking advantage of south and south-west exposure and a medium-heavy, clayey soil with a high percentage of limestone. Since its foundation in the late 1970s, cultivation has followed the rules of what later came to be called organic farming and even biodynamically inspired practices. Harvesting is done naturally by hand, with a yield of around 60 quintals per hectare, in early September for the Sangiovese and even by the end of the month for the Montepulciano. The two spontaneous fermentations take place for 10 days at a controlled temperature in steel vats, and after a few decanting, the blend is aged for 12 months in 30- and 15-hectolitre oak barrels. After light filtration, the wine is bottled and rests in the cellar for a few months.
Rosso Piceno Superiore di Aurora has a dark ruby colour with lighter reflections at the rim. The bouquet has a delicate effect played by floral notes and the aromatic vegetable of bay leaves, with central notes reminiscent of wild berries. The sip is full-bodied and graceful, with a touch of freshness, irresistible juiciness, and a decidedly persistent finish. Spicy meat and vegetable dishes are a perfect companion.
