Rosso ‘UVA’ Clos Marfisi 2021

Clos Marfisi's 'UVA' is a medium-bodied red wine, a blend of Minustellu, Carcaghjolu Neru and Niellucciu grapes, all from the Ravagnola vineyard in northern Corsica. This is a fleshy wine with soft tannins that reveals fruity and smoky notes following partial maceration and one year's ageing in steel tanks.  It should be paired with rich and hearty dishes such as the region's typical wild boar casserole, a speciality with a 'wild' and vinous flavour

ROSSO ‘UVA’ CLOS MARFISI 2021 DESCRIPTION

The 'UVA' Red by Clos Marfisi is a bottle capable of expressing the most authentic oenological character of Corsica. It is a blend of Minustellu, Carcaghjolu Neru, and Niellucciu grapes, all traditional Corsican varieties. In particular, Minustellu is nothing but a biotype of Graciano, a grape variety of Spanish origin that gives rise to intensely aromatic wines. Instead, Carcaghjolu Neru, also known as Carcajolo Nero, is characterized by its intense and dark color, as well as its light body and rather low acidity. Finally, Niellucciu represents one of the most important varieties in all of Corsica, a biotype of Sangiovese particularly appreciated in the Patrimonio area.

'UVA' Red by Clos Marfisi is derived from a blend of Niellucciu (50%), Minustellu (25%), and Carcaghjolu Neru (25%) grapes, all from the Ravagnola vineyard, the largest on the estate. The plants, grown according to the principles of organic agriculture, rest on soils consisting of clay and limestone just a hundred meters from the sea. The harvest is carried out by hand, and in the cellar, the clusters of Carcaghjolu Neru and Minustellu are vinified as red wines with 15 days of maceration on the skins, half of the Carcaghjolu being whole cluster while the Minustellu is completely destemmed. The Niellucciu, on the other hand, is directly pressed and then vinified as a rosé before being blended with the rest of the masses. The entire process, including one year of aging, takes place in stainless steel tanks.

Clos Marfisi's 'UVA' Red has a dark ruby red color. The nose reveals vibrant fruity aromas of blood orange, sour cherry, and cherry, supported by slightly smoky notes. The palate, sleek and fleshy, reveals soft tannins, medium body, and juicy freshness.
