RED ZISOLA - MAZZEI 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Sicilian Rosso signed by Mazzei at the Zisola Estate recounts a new way of thinking about and interpreting Nero d'Avola. This vine, strongly expressive of the island's wine identity, is in fact proposed in a fruity and Mediterranean version, characteristics that derive from the calcareous composition of the terroir of origin, and which tone down the usual exuberance of this variety. It is a label that brings together Italian and foreign critics on excellent scores.

This Rosso comes from the pure use of a great native Sicilian red grape variety, widely cultivated within the regional borders, the Nero d'Avola. This variety is cultivated using the alberello system, sinking its roots into vineyards not far from the sea, facing south-east and characterised by a predominantly calcareous subsoil. The grapes, carefully selected during the harvest, ferment at a temperature of between 26 and 28 degrees, macerating for about two weeks. This is followed by ageing, in which the wine is left to rest for 10 months in first and second passage barriques, until the Zisola-Mazzei winery team proceeds with bottling.

The Zisola-Mazzei signature red wine presents itself to the eye with a resplendent colour, reminiscent of ruby shades. The nose is dominated by swelling and enveloping sensations, which move on a progression of fruity notes, enriched by more spicy and wild berry nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, full-bodied, tasty, with a mouthfeel endowed with a pleasant freshness, smooth thanks also to a precise tannic texture, finely integrated into the overall structure. A label that confirms the quality of the path undertaken by Mazzei, a leading producer in Tuscany, within the Sicilian borders at the Zisola Estate, located a short distance from the enchanting town of Noto.
