The Rouge "Massale" by Opi D'Aqui is a red with a light color, almost a claret, but don’t be fooled it is not a soft wine. Produced in the center of Languedoc, it is very fresh and aromatic thanks to the carbonic maceration to which the grapes are subjected, three types of Grenache, and the aging in steel. From the glass emanate aromas of red fruits and flowers, purple and wild strawberry, as well as a persuasive hint of rose hip. On the palate the slight tannins and the lively freshness give structure and the aromas persist for a long time.

"Massale" is Opi d'Aqui's interpretation of the different nuances of the Mediterranean variety par excellence, Grenache. The label is indicative of the vineyard planting system from which the grapes for this winemaking are sourced: massale selection is an ancient system of vegetative propagation of vines that is achieved by recovering shoots from the oldest and hardiest plants, within the same property. This method allows for maximum genetic variability within a vineyard: by encouraging the spread of specimens with different physiological and productive characteristics, a better balance can be achieved in the fruit that will be harvested.
"Massale" is made by Opi d'Aqui with the three different varieties of Grenache: Noir, present for 40% in the blend, Gris and Blanc, both present for 30%. The grapes are grown under a certified organic system, also using the principles of biodynamic agriculture, within a unique vineyard, propagated by selection from old vines and characterized by clay soils on a limestone matrix. Harvesting is done manually at the same time for all varieties, and the resulting blend is vinified whole cluster: carbonic maceration in steel tanks for a duration of about 3 to 4 weeks is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, by indigenous yeasts only. Aging proceeds on the fine lees in steel tanks for a period of 6 months, and bottling is carried out without prior filtering, clarification or stabilization, nor addition of sulfites.
"Massale" is a particularly striking creation by Philippe Formentin, the vigneron of the Opi d'Aqui winery: the light ruby color, absolutely delicate, with which it is presented misleads about the richness of structure and aromas. The nose is immediately intoxicated by dark floral scents, such as violet, and at the same time more pungent, such as rosehip, while fresh fruity notes of strawberry and wild berries soon emerge. The taste reveals a certain fullness, with hints of a delicate fruity sweetness, and a lively freshness that flows into a lingering, saline finish.
