RUFIA BRANCO TAVARES DE PINA 2019 DESCRIPTION

With its jaw-dropping agility and pronounced mineral vein, the 'Rufia' Branco from Portuguese winery Tavares de Pina succeeds in delighting the senses of anyone who tries it, from simple amateurs to more experienced palates. Within the municipality of Penalva do Castelo, in the district of Viseu, winemaker João Tavares de Pina is characterized by a totally eco-friendly approach that leads him to offer pristine expressions of his terroir. The winery consists of 40 hectares of which only 13 are planted with vines, in a context of absolute biodiversity thanks to the abundant presence of forests.

Tavares de Pina's Branco 'Rufia' consists of a blend of Encruzado (30%), Erceal Branco (20%), Malvasia (20%), Arinto (15%) and Bical (15%). The vineyards, located about 550 meters above sea level, are cultivated on clay and granite soils excluding the use of synthetic chemicals. Manual harvesting is followed by alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks conducted by indigenous yeasts alone for a period of about 10-12 days. The wine is subsequently elevated on its fine lees for 8 months, again in steel, and then bottled without undergoing filtration.

To the eye, João Tavares de Pina 'Rufia' Branco reveals a golden yellow hue with bright highlights. Suave but energetic olfactory panorama described by hints of summer fruit, almond, flowers and herbs supported by intense saline puffs. Refreshing and mineral palate, endowed at the same time with light body and remarkable persistence. Closes on delicious sensations of white-fleshed fruit and citrus. A graceful and persuasive Portuguese label, ideal for drinking in youth thus enhancing its lively freshness. Appetizers and seafood first courses of contained structure constitute ideal pairings.
