SANTORINI BARREL SIGALAS 2022 DESCRIPTION

Sigalas' Santorini Barrel is a product in which warmth and smoothness enhance the qualities of Assyrtiko, an indigenous varietal processed by the Sigalas winery in wood, both during the winemaking and aging phases. The citrus fruits of the Mediterranean open the olfactory impact of the nectar, which then unfolds, between nose and mouth, with tertiary tones developed precisely during the aging phase. A label that draws fish-based pairings to the table, but which can also be tried with a selection of aged cheeses to test its character.

This Santorini Barrel Sigalas originates from the pure grapes of an indigenous grape variety of the island, Assyrtiko. The vines of this variety-which have an average age of more than 60 years-grow using a typical form of farming, the basket, which consists of rolling the long vine shoots on the ground so that the leaves of each plant act as shelter from the sun's rays and the winds that sweep the island during the day. The must ferments in oak barrels of different capacities, either 225-liter or 500-liter. This is followed by the final aging phase, in which the wine remains for six months to mature on its fine lees in barriques and oak barrels, 30% new.

Sigalas Santorini Barrel presents itself to the eye with a golden yellow color endowed with a particular brightness and brilliance. Comfortable the nose, which moves on warm and layered tones, starting with citrus and then enriched with more woody nuances and spicy references. Delicate the entry into the mouth, marked by a good enveloping structure, in which the taste is aromatic and well aligned with the hints already perceived during the olfactory analysis. A bottle that positively affects not only those who approach it for the first time, but also those who, like the great critic Robert Parker, are used to tasting wines on a daily basis. The label is one to put on your wish list.
