SAUVIGNON 'RONCO DELLE MELE' VENICA 2023 DESCRIPTION

Sauvignon 'Ronco delle Mele' represents the cutting edge of the renowned Friulian winery Venica & Venica, a white wine of commendable harmony and complexity. We are in Dolegna del Collio, in Collio Goriziano, where since the first half of the last century the Venica family has been making great wines with a special focus on whites, the real pride of the estate. Among these stands out the 'Ronco delle Mele', made with grapes from the vineyard of the same name on the Cerò hill and established as one of the most important Sauvignon Blancs in all Italy. The appellation 'Ronco delle Mele' comes from the fact that in the 1930s, to support the structure of the land damaged by bombing during World War I, founder Daniele Venica decided to plant apple trees between the rows.

Venica Sauvignon 'Ronco delle Mele' is made from only Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown at an altitude of 150 meters on soils composed mainly of sandstone marl. Manual harvesting is followed by destemming of the grapes and a short cold pre-fermentation maceration in the absence of oxygen. Next, the grapes are softly pressed and the resulting must sent to alcoholic fermentation, carried out partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in large wooden barrels, the same types of wine containers where the wine remains to mature on the lees for 5 months.

Venica & Venica's 'Ronco delle Mele' Collio Sauvignon has an intense straw yellow color with golden hues. Olfactory range rich and varietal in its aromas of tropical fruit, citrus, lime and tomato leaf, combined with slightly smoky mineral puffs. The full-bodied and balanced palate is distinguished by an elegant freshness and marked savory timbre that drive the long, warm finish.
