SCHIAVA VECCHIE VIGNE 'VERNATSCH ALTE REBEN GSCHLEIER' GIRLAN 2022 DESCRIPTION

Girlan's Schiava "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" is a wine made from the most representative red grape variety in South Tyrol. It is the red that best tells the story of the area, the most widely planted variety before the advent of the white wine revolution that changed the face of the region. Elegant, fresh, fruity and with subtle tannins, it is a streamlined and delicate wine that is very smooth and pleasant to drink.

The "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" Schiava is part of the Selections line of the Girlan Winery, a company that manages the vineyards of more than 200 winegrowers, cultivating plots located in the best areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" is produced from vineyards located in the eponymous Gschleier area near Cornaiano, a cool, sunny terroir that is among the most renowned for Schiava. The vines are between 80 and 110 years old and are located at an altitude of about 450 meters above sea level, on soils of a calcareous nature, with the presence of clay and gravel. After manual harvesting, fermentation for about 15 to 20 days is carried out, followed by a period of maturation in large oak barrels of 9 months and refinement of 6 months in bottles before being released on the market.

The "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" wine from the South Tyrolean winery Girlan is a Schiava of particular quality, expressing the full potential of this ancient grape variety. Excellent to drink young, it also has good potential for evolution and aging. The color is light ruby red. To the nose it expresses floral scents, delicate hints of red fruit and hints of underbrush. The sip is slender and dynamic, aromatically deep, with fine tannins and a finish characterized by a good sapidity.
