From vine virtually forgotten and risk to extinction, in recent years Schioppettino rose to prominence becoming one of the great red wines of Friuli for excellence. And this work of discovery has been made possible thanks to the advent of producers like Casella; wineries who understood the cultural importance that was being lost and that they made it their own, this wine represents a contemporary version of the tradition and history. We are at Albana di Prepotto on vines that have several decades of history and vintages behind; those of Schioppettino are 40 years old and are located on soils rich in clay and marl. And here, a few steps from the border with Slovenia, which comes this Schioppettino, a great red wine from Friuli that after a 10-day maceration on the skins is matured for 24 months in barrique.
