Spumante Rosé Brut Metodo Classico 'Calce' San Marzano 2017

San Marzano's Sparkling Rosé Brut Metodo Classico "Calce" is an all-Apulian experimentation, made with Chardonnay grapes to which native red grapes are added, giving a typical Apulian imprint to this wine. The San Marzano winery is a historical reality in Salento, always at the forefront of exploring new oenological frontiers, hence the birth of this wine. On the nose there are hints of red fruits, orange and typical hints of pastry and yeast. On the palate it is dynamic, lively, medium-bodied but with a firm tannic texture and a soft sip

SPUMANTE ROSÉ BRUT METODO CLASSICO 'CALCE' SAN MARZANO 2017 DESCRIPTION

San Marzano's Spumante Rosé Brut Metodo Classico 'Calce' was born in San Marzano di San Giuseppe in the province of Taranto, in the flourishing countryside of the Apulian land. In 1962, 19 local winemakers decided to join forces, giving rise to a synergic work sharing reality to enhance the potential of Primitivo di Manduria. As time went by, the reality grew and in 1982 the then President Francesco Cavallo consolidated the winery's activities, projecting it towards a prosperous future: the first bottles began to come out on the market, reaching even the international markets, creating an authentic image with a distinct personality. The year two thousand marks sixty years of activity, which boasts the merit of having exported the beauty of the Apulian land to the world.

The Chardonnay and Negroamaro grapes of San Marzano's Spumante Rosé Brut Metodo Classico "Calce" are grown using the espalier method on mainly medium-textured soils containing clay, limestone and skeleton; the production area is hilly with a south/south-east exposure, ideal for the rows to be consistently hit by sunlight. Summers are mainly hot, sunny and characterised by breezes from the two seas surrounding the region; winters are mild, often with rainfall. Harvesting takes place between the first week of August and the second week of September by hand; in the cellar, the bunches are softly pressed and only the first fraction of the flower must is used, which is then fermented. It re-ferments in the bottle according to the dictates of the Metodo Classico and matures on the lees for 36 months.

To the eye, San Marzano's Spumante Rosé Brut Metodo Classico "Calce" appears pale pink with delicate, brilliant reflections. The bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of citrus fruits, notes of white summer flowers and red fruits such as raspberries, currants and blueberries, and the characteristic scent of freshly baked bread crust; in the mouth it is dynamic, lively and elegant with a good persistence on the palate that makes for a pleasant drink. It is recommended with shellfish and mollusc dishes, stewed fish and soups; also interesting with seasonal vegetable dishes and fresh cow's milk cheeses. Perfect for family celebrations on anniversaries or to celebrate important milestones with colleagues, savouring the authenticity of the Apulian land.
