Du Vin aux Liens' 'Viktoria' is a fresh and harmonious pure Sylvaner that is vinified with indigenous yeasts and matured 36 months in oak barrels. Notes of cut grass, white-fleshed fruit and lemon can be perceived on the palate, making it suitable to pair with a fish fry on a hot summer's day
The 'Viktoria' Sylvaner produced in Alsace by the innovative craft winery Du Vin aux Liens is an oxidative-style white wine that stands out for its aromas of hay and dried fruit. Sylvaner is a variety native to western Germany that has become one of the traditional grapes of the nearby Alsace region, also cultivated in Alto Adige and Switzerland. Generally, it is a grape variety that prefers cool and sunny climates, originating from a spontaneous cross between Traminer and a rare variety called Osterreichisch Weiss. Although the cross is believed to have occurred in Austria, Sylvaner is not widely spread in Austrian territory and is considered indigenous to Germany, where it arrived in the distant 17th century. From there, it spread to Alsace, becoming particularly popular after the Second World War.
The Sylvaner 'Viktoria' from Du Vin aux Liens is a 100% Sylvaner from vines grown under certified organic practices. When the grapes have reached the right stage of ripeness, harvesting begins, followed by gentle pressing of the clusters and a subsequent long alcoholic fermentation of 12 months in fiberglass tanks. After the fermentation process, the wine is transferred to oak barrels for extended aging of 36 months, during which no topping up is done to encourage the development of characteristic oxidative aromas.
The 'Viktoria' Sylvaner from the Du Vin aux Liens project is an intense straw yellow color with greenish hues. On the nose, complex sensations of pear, green apple, white peach, hay, mown grass, wildflowers, and citrus are perceived, enriched by oxidative and spicy undertones. The wine's substantial structure and warm smoothness on the palate are well-balanced by harmonious freshness and a pleasant saline-mineral vein, with a long-lasting persistence.
