Isole e Olena's 'Collezione Privata' Syrah is produced in the area between the provinces of Florence and Siena. The winery has been family-run since the 1950s, when the De Marchi family decided to invest in some plots of land in Tuscany. In 1976 it was Paolo De Marchi who gave the business a major boost, after his experience in Napa Valley: updated and modern cellar techniques, the addition of international vines to the already present Sauvignon and Canaiolo, and greater quality in every single bottle put on the market. Today the business is still under his management and the daily work in the vineyard and cellar constantly receives approval and recognition.
The grapes of the Syrah "Collezione Privata" of Isole and Olena are grown in vineyards that extend over approximately 56 hectares fully planted with vines. The altitude reaches 400 metres above sea level and the exposure is ideal, so that the sun's rays constantly reach the rows to ensure full ripeness of the grapes at harvest time. Work in the vineyard is geared towards respecting the ecosystem surrounding the vineyards: hilly terrain composed mainly of clay and sandstone, surrounded by dense woods. The grapes are harvested manually in the second ten days of September; in the cellar, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel, followed by a long ageing period first in barriques and then in large casks.
The colour of Syrah 'Collezione Privata' by Isole e Olena is an intense ruby red with violet hues. On the nose there are nuances of red berries such as raspberry and currant, sweet spices such as vanilla and on the finish notes of leather and dark chocolate; on the palate it is round, lively and elegant with the presence of soft tannins that are well integrated with the drink that is recalled goblet after goblet. In pairing it is recommended with red meat dishes cooked according to traditional Tuscan recipes, mixed sliced meats of medium seasoning and first courses dressed with elaborate sauces; also interesting with mature cow's milk cheeses. Ideal for a winter evening in front of the fireplace with a good book, enjoying a product that is the result of careful and conscious work that knows how to enhance the potential of the Tuscan land.
