Berritta Dorgali

Syrah 'Istranzu' Berritta Dorgali 2019

The Syrah 'Istranzu' from Berritta Dorgali winery is a deep, full-bodied red wine, aged 12 to 24 months in medium/small French barrels. These give it roundness and softness, giving a full, intense sip with velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish. On the nose, the aromatic bouquet reveals notes of cherry, plum and berries jam, softened by hints of sweet spice and bitter cocoa. It can rest in the cellar a few years to best express its great elegance

SYRAH 'ISTRANZU' BERRITTA DORGALI 2019 DESCRIPTION

The Syrah 'Istranzu' represents one of the most valuable and prestigious labels made by the Sardinian Berritta Dorgali estate. The appellation of this bottle means 'foreigner' in the Sardinian language, meant in an obsequious form as a guest of honour, to emphasise the allochthonous origin of Syrah with respect to Sardinia. It was Maurizio Saettini, a Tuscan agronomist and friend of Berritta's oenologist Roberto Gariup, who suggested the planting of this wine after seeing the territory of Dorgali. As with other labels from the winery, the illustration of the 'Istranzu' Syrah was entrusted to the artistic talent of Dorgali illustrator Maurizio Brocca.

'Istranzu' Berritta Dorgali Syrah is produced from only grapes of the international variety of the same name grown under certified organic conditions. The vines, around 20 years old, are situated at an altitude of 180 metres above sea level and rest on draining soils originating from granite disintegration. The grapes are harvested by hand between the end of August and the beginning of September. They are then destemmed and placed in French oak truncated cone vats for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation associated with 20-30 days of maceration on the skins, with repeated manual punching-down. After this period, the mass is gently pressed by hand, and the liquid is then aged for 12 to 24 months in French oak barrels before bottling, which takes place without prior filtration.

Berritta Dorgali Syrah 'Istranzu' has a dark purple-red colour with violet hues. Involving an olfactory texture defined by notes of cherry, plum and jammy wild berries combined with spicy hints of tobacco and bitter cocoa. The taste is warm and enveloping, intense and full-bodied, with a silky tannic texture and persistent finish.
