The "Vigna Macchia dei Gotti" is a Taurasi robust, deep and enveloping, warm and structured, aged in barrique for 18 months. Intense hints of black cherries, pepper, balsamic herbs and sweet spices emerge from a soft and powerful texture, of very long persistence
The wine "Vigna Macchia dei Goti" is a Taurasi of absolute depth, able to have its say within the entire appellation. Thanks to Antonio Caggiano, who has always been an advocate and enhancer of this typology, and who understood before many other winemakers in the area, insisting on the concept of quality at the expense of quantity and consequently deciding to drastically lower the yields per hectare of Aglianico within his vineyards. A far-sighted choice, to say the least, resulting in a label that is full and round to the taste, characterized by a beautiful array of aromas on the nose.
Taurasi "Vigna Macchia dei Goti" comes from the pure use of a red grape native to Campania, Aglianico. Grapes of this variety grow in the Contrada that gives the label its name, Macchia dei Goti, in vineyards located at an elevation of about 350 meters above sea level, facing southwest. Here the terroir is marked by a clay and limestone matrix, and the vines grow using the spurred cordon system. The grapes, harvested between the end of October and the beginning of November, are destemmed and crushed once they reach the Antonio Caggiano winery's winemaking facilities, then fermented, macerating for a long period. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in French oak barriques for 18 months.
The red wine Taurasi "Vigna Macchia dei Goti" reveals itself to the eye with a typically ruby colour, deep and compact. Rich and complex, the nose, which is articulated on a set of fruity and spicy scents, is also enhanced, on the finish, by a balsamic touch. The palate is full-bodied and warm, with a sip where the tannins stand out as the undisputed protagonists. It closes with a long finish, endowed with excellent persistence. The Antonio Caggiano winery presents the king of Campania's reds with a label of excellent depth, where the quality is felt sip after sip, as also testified by the great awards given to it by the main sector guides, not only Italian.
