"Vigilius" is one of the most classic and full-bodied expressions of Teroldego, produced with fermentation in open oak vats and aging in small barrels for at least 12 months. An intense, balsamic and fruity bouquet paves the way for a structured, full, warm and vigorous sip with an elegant tannic texture

De Vescovi Ulzbach's Teroldego Rotaliano "Vigilius" was born in the province of Trento, specifically in the pleasant and sunny Valcamonica. The de Vescovi family moved to Mezzacorona in the early 16th century, and the brothers Stefano and Ludovico in 1614 obtained the coat of arms and confirmation of nobility from Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria and Count of Tyrol. Over time the family name became linked with numerous political and priestly officeholders, most notably Vigilio de Vescovi, parish priest of Mezzacorona in 1650 and bursar to the prince of Trent. The beginning of the 18th century marked the opening of the family's grape-growing activities, and around the beginning of the 20th century, it was Giulio de Vescovi who perfected the technique and began to put the first bottles on the market. His descendants carried on his work with conviction and experience, arriving in 2003 to be one of the first wineries in the area to focus entirely on the native Teroldego grape variety.
The vineyards of Teroldego Rotaliano "Vigilius" by De Vescovi Ulzbach are located about 200 meters above sea level in the Piana Rotaliana area. The soil is loamy, sandy and rich in stones and pebbles with a predominantly alluvial origin for elegant and structured final products. The chosen method of cultivation is organic, with human intervention in the vineyard reduced to a minimum so that the natural phases of plant growth and development can find maximum expression. At the end of September, manual harvesting of the grapes begins with a selection in the vineyard of the best bunches, which are then transported to the winery in bins. In the winery, destemming takes place; 10% of the cluster is crushed whole, and for the remainder, only the berries. Pre-fermentative maceration occurs; alcoholic fermentation takes place in unglazed cement for 20 days. Ages 10 months in French wood and unglazed cement and stays in a bottle for 6 months.
To the eye, De Vescovi Ulzbach's Teroldego Rotaliano "Vigilius" is a dark, impenetrable ruby red. The bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of blueberries, currant, blackberry and raspberry with floral notes of wild violet and minerals such as graphite; in the mouth, it is rich, enveloping and elegant, with nice tannins that are pleasant to drink and a good freshness that balances everything. In pairing, it is recommended with local game, grilled and stewed cuts of red meat and pasta dishes dressed with elaborate sauces; interesting with aged cow's milk cheeses for a curious end to a meal. Excellent for the family Christmas party table, to accompany traditional dishes and rediscover forgotten flavours.
