VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO CLASSICO SUPERIORE 'FRATEFOCO' DOMINI VENETI 2019 DESCRIPTION

Domini Veneti Estate presents the Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 'Fratefoco', one of the latest novelties from the winery, produced in a limited edition to celebrate the 160th anniversary of Gabriele d'Annunzio's birth. This particular bottle originates from the collaboration between Domini Veneti and the Fondazione Il Vittoriale degli Italiani, which was established from the donation to the Italian State of a monumental complex built by the Vate in 1923 together with architect Gian Carlo Maroni. The 'Fratefoco' was presented in 2023, exactly 100 years after the donation and 160 years after the birth of the celebrated and multifaceted figure who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries and went down in history as one of the greatest Italian poets and writers. The label features a vintage-style image of d'Annunzio, complete with his signature, while the name 'Fratefoco' is one of the various pen names the Abruzzese poet used to sign letters to friends and lovers.

Domini Veneti Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 'Fratefoco' is a blend of Corvina (70%) and Merlot (30%) grapes, varieties cultivated in the classic Valpolicella area. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in red through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. After a few months, the wine undergoes the so-called “Ripasso technique,” which involves macerating the Valpolicella on the freshly fermented Amarone or Recioto pomace. This is followed by aging for a few years in large oak barrels.

The color of Domini Veneti's Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 'Fratefoco' is deep ruby red. The nose reveals intense and enveloping scents of cherry, plum, red citrus, and eucalyptus, accompanied by notes of hazelnut and nutmeg. On the palate, it unveils excellent balance between the soft component and pleasant freshness, as well as a silky tannic texture that accompanies sensations of ripe fruit and sweet spices.
