Vermentino di Belguardo is a white wine with character produced in the vineyards of Montebottigli near Grosseto, on the Maremma estate of Mazzei. Cultivated at an altitude between 20 and 50 metres on sandy soils, it is a wine that tells of the Tyrrhenian coast with its decisive minerality. This pure Vermentino is characterised by aromas of exotic fruit and yellow peach. It offers great sapidity and a decidedly fresh finish. Ideal with seafood, grilled fish and fresh cheese

VERMENTINO BELGUARDO - MAZZEI 2023 DESCRIPTION

The Vermentino "Belguardo" from the renowned Mazzei winery represents a purely Tuscan interpretation of this well-known white grape variety, characterised by typically spicy and mineral sensations. Located near Grosseto, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, Tenuta Belguardo was taken over by the Mazzei family in the 1990s, who immediately embarked on an ambitious project to renew the vineyards, focussing on traditional varieties such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Vermentino as well as international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante and Syrah. The vines here benefit from the strong influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea, which softens the excessive heat with its breezes and protects the grapes from waterlogging.

Mazzei Vermentino "Belguardo" is made exclusively from grapes of the white grape variety of the same name, planted on loose, sandy and sandstone soils with south and south-west exposures. After the harvest, which is done entirely by hand in September, the grapes are vinified using the white wine method by gentle pressing and subsequent alcoholic fermentation of the must at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine is also matured in stainless steel tanks for several months before the final bottling.

Visually, the Vermentino "Belguardo" from the Mazzei family has a bright straw-yellow colour. The olfactory spectrum is made up of pleasant aromas reminiscent of summer fruits, yellow flowers, exotic fruits and aromatic herbs, supported by a clear iodine minerality. The flavour is spicy and refreshing, full-bodied and characterised by a dry and balanced development that leads to a pleasantly persistent finish. This Vermentino is the ideal accompaniment to seafood, whether fried, as an appetiser or with grilled main courses.

When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can let it rest in the cellar quietly for 3-4 years
