Tenuta Aquilaia's Vermentino is a Tuscan white wine endowed with vivid fruity and floral aromas of remarkable pleasantness. This label is part of the 'Orizzonti' line, wines made from the most important traditional grape varieties of the Tuscan Maremma, namely Sangiovese and Vermentino, varieties interpreted in a quest for dynamism and drinkability. Although its origin is probably to be found in the Iberian Peninsula, today Vermentino is cultivated almost exclusively in Sardinia, Tuscany and Liguria, as well as in Corsica and certain areas in the south of France. In general, it is a semi-aromatic variety to be appreciated for its intense aromas and remarkable concentration.
Tenuta Aquilaia Vermentino is made exclusively from Vermentino grapes grown on clay and sandy soils, also characterised by the presence of gravel and pebbles, which are particularly rich in organic substance. Following the harvest, the grapes are pressed and the must undergoes a cold skin maceration of 12-15 hours at a temperature of between 10 and 12 °C. This is followed by soft pressing and then alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18-22 °C. The subsequent maturing phase of a few months also takes place in stainless steel and after a further rest in the bottle the wine is finally ready for release.
The Vermentino of the Tuscan Tenuta Aquilaia possesses a straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights. The nose offers fruity and floral hints reminiscent of apple, tropical fruit, jasmine and peach blossom, surrounded by fresh hints of citrus. The sip is characterised by savouriness and richness, elements well supported by the balancing freshness that anticipates the persistent finish.
