Livio Felluga's "Vertigo" comes from the union of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, internationally renowned grape varieties. The combination of grape varieties in Vertigo has a twofold function: on the one hand, it is a kind of continuity between the territory of Friuli and the rest of the world, and on the other hand, it gives the wine balance and complexity, which represent much about its structure. Felluga is now one of the biggest names making the Friulian territory known outside and inside the Belpaese after Livio had stubbornly set out after World War II to work on the lands that had been abandoned and had seen two world wars fought in that stretch of land where the current borders between Italy and Slovenia have always been moving.
Livio Felluga's signature "Vertigo" wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate's own vineyards that extend into Collio Friulano, where the soil is characterized by marl and sandstone. The harvest falls around the first decade of October and is completely manual. The grapes are destemmed and then crushed, while fermentation in steel tanks takes place with skin maceration at a controlled temperature. The process lasts about three weeks, with frequent pumping over to extract aromas and colour. Subsequent maturation takes place in steel and small French oak barrels for one year, followed by bottle ageing for four months.
Livio Felluga "Vertigo" is a successful combination that has resulted in a balanced, full-bodied, soft and fragrant wine. Its red is a very intense, impenetrable ruby. Hints coming from the glass smell of red berry fruits with deeper notes of spice and liquorice and some more vegetal ones of green bell pepper. In the mouth, it is full and satisfying, with a spicy finish that gives variety to the palate. It is a wine that fits perfectly into the tradition of the Livio Felluga winery, which has become historical in the Friulian and national wine scene. Among the hills of Rosazzo comes this beautiful red that deserves a prominent place in your cellar.
