White Blend Andi Weigand 2020

The "White Blend" by Andi Weigand is a white wine produced with white berried grapes typical of Franconia, a region where the young Andi works in an artisanal way, with great attention to the health of the territory. The bunches are pressed directly into large barrels and, from here, undergo very few treatments. The result is a 'funky' wine but of great pleasantness, with strong hints of tropical fruit and freshly cut grass. To the palate it is lively, fresh and harmonious, very pleasant to drink. Try it with raw fish or appetizers

WHITE BLEND ANDI WEIGAND 2020 DESCRIPTION

Andi Weigand realizes "White" through a blend of grapes symbolic of the Franconian winemaking tradition, interpreted in a spontaneous and directly territorial way: the entry level to the winery, a bright, juicy and fresh white.

"White" is made by Andi Weigand through the vinification of the four most representative white grape varieties of the Franconian wine-growing region: Müller Thurgau, Scheurebe, Sylvaner, Bacchus, bred according to organic and biodynamic certification protocols. The vines boast an age of more than 40 years and are located in the very center of German territory, an area that stretches between the major centers of Frankfurt, to the northwest, and Nuremberg, to the southeast, crossed by the Main River. The soils are characterized by a peculiar rock component, which is locally called Keuper: a kind of chalky stone that easily flakes into sand, formed by compressed layers of clays and shales that originated some 230 million years ago and are comparable to the components of dolomitic soils. On the slopes of the Kronsberg, the vines overlook the village of Iphofen, home of the winery, from an elevation of 300 to 400 meters above sea level. Harvesting is done by hand at the same time, in early September, and the grapes are pressed through an old basket press that is now 80 years old. The must ferments in wooden barrels thanks to the action of native yeasts: subsequent aging always takes place in wooden barrels, for a period of about 12 months. No filtration or clarification takes place before bottling, nor are sulfites added.

"White" by Andi Weigand is distinguished by a deep straw yellow color with brilliant golden highlights. On the nose it offers intriguing, varied on fresh and riper vegetal and sweet tropical fruit complexities, with distinct citrusy hints of orange and lemon. Smoke notes introduce a clearly mineral tasting and a taut, dynamic sip, played on great freshness and hints of softness. Paired with a roasted mackerel it will make an excellent impression.
