Bodegas Frontonio is an interesting Spanish winery, cultivating vines in the Aragon region, with the desire to recover the ancient traditions of local viticulture. The project stems precisely from the idea of restoring splendor to a highly vocated area that can boast an ancient history in the field of vine cultivation, which has been abandoned as a result of the modern mechanization of agriculture. The winery's philosophy is based on a limited production of high-quality bottles, capable of faithfully reflecting the terroir. The Bodegas offers handcrafted, authentic and sincere wines made from the region's ancient native varieties and with full respect for a natural, wild and unspoiled environment.
The vineyards are located in the mountainous area of Valdejalon and are cultivated at an altitude between 450 and 1,030 meters above sea level. The climate is very cool, characterized by significant temperature ranges between daytime and nighttime temperatures. Constant ventilation keeps the clusters healthy, avoiding moisture hazards. The soils are poor and stony, consisting of slates, limestone and clays, particularly suitable for quality viticulture based on low natural yields. Bodegas Frontonio winery is committed to the recovery of old sapling vineyards, some even several centuries old, which constitute a true monument to viticulture. A good part of the vines are more than 50 years old and have been planted with the varieties that have always been present in this land: the Garnacha and Macabeo.
The sunny, cool and always very ventilated microclimate favors a vineyard management inspired by organic farming practices, without the use of chemicals. Fertilizations take place are with organic compost. The pearl of the estate is El Jardín de las Iguales, which is located in the Sierra de Algairén, within the Barrandijos Valley in Altrás. It is a parcel planted between 1898 and 1908, on ancient terraces supported by dry stone walls, patiently saved as a precious treasure, a historical memory of the past. The winery is located inside an ancient underground cave, excavated over two centuries ago on three levels, so as to take advantage of the force of gravity, without using pumps. The wines are the fruit of passion, tradition and reflect the character of the terroir with freshness and elegance.
