The Borgo dei Posseri winery is an interesting example of mountain winemaking that draws on the traditions of the Trentino region, reinterpreting them in a modern way. Located in the farming village above Ala, it was founded in 1999 by Martin Mainenti, who decided to leave Milan and return to his homeland to give life to a dream. Together with his family and friend Maria Marangoni, he dedicated body and soul to producing wines that embody the fresh soul of Trentino.
The vineyards of Borgo dei Posseri extend over 21 hectares on a sunny mountain plateau between Ala, known as the Velvet City, and the Little Dolomites. The vines, trained strictly on the Guyot system, grow at altitudes ranging from 550 to 700 metres above sea level and form small plots that alternate with woods, meadows and pastures. The area is characterised by constant southerly and northerly winds and calcareous-loamy soils mixed with large dolomite rocks. The vineyards are mainly exposed to the west and north-west. These unique climatic and soil conditions provide an ideal habitat for the cultivation of vines in a gentle, non-intensive environment.
Borgo dei Posseri's production philosophy is oriented towards the enhancement of environmental characteristics: the vineyards are distributed in plots with different morphological, position and microclimate features. There are areas that are more sloping, covered by woodland, alternating with flatter areas, partly terraced. In order to produce high-quality wines with an original and well-defined character, the winery has chosen international varieties: Muller Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sauvignon and Chardonnay are the main grapes cultivated. In addition, young vines have been carefully selected from the most suitable areas of Europe. In the vineyard, particular attention is paid to the use of phytosanitary products in combination with organic treatments and the mechanical processing of the undervine: the use of herbicides is absolutely forbidden. Borgo dei Posseri wines have a strong territorial expressiveness together with a unique style, based on purity, finesse and elegance. They are constantly evolving expressions and for this very reason are capable of authentically conveying the mineral essence of the Trentino mountains.
