Dewar's Distillery was founded by John Dewar back in 1846. The company started out as a small shop in Perth selling spirits and wines. It was only later that it started its own distilling business and became one of the best known and most respected brands of Scotch Whisky. The Distillery's logo consists of three D's, symbolising the names of John Dewar and his sons John Alexander and Tommy Dewar. Dewar's immediately established itself on the Scottish whisky scene for its ability to create excellent blends, which are very harmonious and balanced, and the result of great knowledge and experience in the art of blending different spirits.

As the business developed, the need arose to produce its own single malt to be used as the basis for Blended Whisky. A distillery was soon built in the heart of Highland Perthshire, on the outskirts of the village of Aberfeldy. The choice of this location was made because of the possibility of using the crystal clear waters of The Pitilie Burn, which flows not far from the distillery. The extraordinary quality of the water makes it possible to produce light and particularly smooth Whiskies. In addition, Aberfeldy was well connected to Perth, allowing a quick supply of excellent malt and the ability to quickly ship and market bottles.

Dewar's has retained the spirit of its origins and an artisan care in the production of Whisky. The process is based on a careful selection of grains, distillations in traditional stills and long ageing processes. All Blended Whiskies undergo a double ageing process, with a second stage of maturation in oak casks, to allow the Whisky to find the right harmony and expressive complexity. The basis of each blend is still the distillates made in the company, characterised by great elegance and soft honey notes. From 2019, Master Blender Stephanie Macleod has created a new range of Blended Scotch Whiskies with a unique four-stage ageing process, which adds exceptional finesse to the spirits. The classic double ageing is followed by a new maturation in wood and a final ageing in casks that were previously used for Jerez wines. The Cask Collection labels, on the other hand, after 8 years of ageing, finish their ageing in casks previously used for rum.
