Domaine de l'Horizon

Domaine de l'Horizon represents a production reality in the French wine region of Roussillon committed to bringing out all the Mediterranean character of the area by adopting an artisanal and sustainable production approach. We are in Montner, a small village at the foot of the Pyrenees, where Thomas Teibert founded Domaine de l'Horizon in 2006. Thomas, who was born in Germany, can boast a past as an oenological and commercial consultant at wineries in Trentino-Alto Adige, Austria, Spain and France, but it was his meeting with Gerard Gauby of the iconic Domaine Gauby in 2005 that made him want to invest in this beautiful, yet impervious territory. Thomas immediately found support in one of his compatriots: Joachim Christ, who is also responsible for the distribution of the prestigious glasses designed by Kurt Zalto. Since 2020, the producer has been supported by the young oenologist Emmanuelle Maltas, his pupil, to whom he has recently passed the baton in order to devote himself to new projects.
The Domaine de l'Horizon estate has 17 hectares of vineyards spread over plots that are very heterogeneous in terms of soil composition, consisting of brown or black slate, alluvial gravel deposits and red marl rich in iron oxide, with a general presence of almost outcropping mother rock. Also important is the influence of the Mediterranean winds, the considerable temperature fluctuations between day and night during the ripening of the grapes and the high altitudes. On these pedo-climatic parameters, with very old vines partly rooted on a free-range basis, the estate raises the traditional varieties Grenache Gris, Macabeu, Grenache Blanc, Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains, Carignan, Grenache Noir and Syrah under biodynamic regimes, spread over numerous small vineyards. Yields are drastically low and all agronomic operations are carried out by hand, while in the cellar the path followed is that of minimalist and never invasive oenology.
The interpretations of Domaine de l'Horizon are surprising for their lively freshness and elegance as well as their extraordinary dynamism, attributes in contrast to the massive structure and great concentration of the classic Roussillon wines.
