Domaine de Saint Amand

A small family domaine in Bordeaux
Region Bordeaux (Francia)
Vineyard hectares 3.2
Address Domaine de Saint Amand, Lieu dit, Saint-Amand - 33880 Cambes, (Francia)

The Domaine de Saint Amand is located in Cambes, a few kilometres south of Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Garonne river. It is a traditional, family-run estate that manages a small estate of particular value due to its location on a beautiful relief, which offers beautiful exposures and excellent terroir quality.  Since 2018, Sarah Simon, a young winegrower, has been at the helm of the estate. Thanks to her expertise and passion, she runs the business with great care. Her goal is to remain faithful to the best traditions of the terroir and continue to produce high-quality wines with an artisanal profile, with attention to the smallest details.

The domaine enjoys a particularly favourable soil and climate situation. Indeed, it is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the region to the south of the City of Bordeaux, which has always been famous for the excellent level of its production. Vines have lived here for thousands of years thanks to a mild and temperate climate, which benefits from the presence of the Garonne. The river acts as a natural thermoregulator, dampening the excesses of the summer heat and especially the spring cold, thus averting the risk of frost. The soils are very suitable, poor and draining, ideal for high quality viticulture that focuses on low yields per hectare. The soils are essentially alluvial in character and were formed by the flooding of the ancient course of the Garonne. They are soils rich in gravel, pebbles and sand, resting on deep substrates of a predominantly calcareous clayey nature.

Sarah Simon manages a vineyard with a total area of 3.2 hectares, a small garden compared to the large estates of the classic Bordeaux Châteaus. As far as agronomic aspects are concerned, the management is carried out with full respect for the environment and the natural biodiversity of the site. Since 2020, the estate has been certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale - level 3) and since 2012 has been on the path to organic certification. The varieties cultivated are the traditional ones of the region, with a focus on Merlot and Malbec for the red grapes. The whites are made from the classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.
